18 Personal Growth Habits To Create Your Best Life

Habits to help you with personal growth:

Habit 1: Daily meditation.

Meditation is an incredible tool for working on becoming more aware.

When you are meditating you are alone with your thoughts and focusing 100% of your energy on those thoughts. Which allows you to eliminate distractions and pressures from the rest of the world. Which ultimately can help you see yourself more realistically and become more aware.

I recommend either downloading a meditation app or just searching for videos on YouTube until you find a guided one that works for you as you start meditating. And then grab a yoga/meditation matand start working on meditation and figuring out your true self.

Habit 2: Start setting more goals.

Make sure to include daily, monthly, annual, and 5 year goals. Goal setting is a fantastic habit that doesn’t take long but can really have a positive impact on your life, especially on your mindset.

Habit 3: Journaling.

This habit is wonderful for helping you see through any filters you have up and get a better idea of your true self.

You can either approach journaling with or without prompts. If you are new to journaling and feel a bit uncomfortable with it it is usually best to start with prompts and then start working your way towards journaling without prompts. But prompts or not journaling is a self awareness activity that can really help you with personal growth.

A few journal prompts posts that can help with this are:

Also, if you want more prompts I highly recommend searching on Pinterest because there are so many great options.

Habit 4: Don’t go on your phone before bed.

Getting better sleep in general is a very important thing for anyones life.

I have an entire post (that you can read here) about how to get better sleep at night.

Habit 5: Start planning your days in the morning.

Using a daily planner and planning out your days is so important for bettering your life.

I use the Erin Condren Life Planner and love it so much for staying organized and productive.

Habit 6: Breathing techniques.

Breathing techniques and following guided breathing are a great way to be aware of your thoughts and to ground yourself.

And anytime you are making a conscious effort to ground yourself you are going to put yourself into mindset where you force awareness.

To start doing this activity I recommend heading to YouTube or downloading an app to help walk you through breathing techniques and programs.

Habit 7: Write regular letters to yourself.

Writing letters to your past and future self is an amazing technique for practicing and experiencing self awareness.

You can either write letters to yourself at different points in the past to reflect on your past self. Or you can write letters to your future self so you can really be truthful with yourself about what you want in the future. And where you are now which is mainly where the self awareness comes into play!

Habit 8: Practice daily gratitude

Gratitude is an essential thing for having a more intentional life. It allows you to keep things in perspective and be honest about the positives in your life. Which are so helpful for having more balance in your life.

So if you are lacking that mentality of thankfulness and gratitude then you need to start learning how to! When you are thankful for the things in your life and regularly taking the time to think about your blessings you will feel yourself start to feel more intentional.

One of the best ways to do this is to start doing daily gratitude journaling. This doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment. Just grab a gratitude journal (here’s one that is less than $10) and add it into your night time routine. It should only take about 10 minutes but it can really help you feel more grateful and happier.

Habit 9: Stop multitasking

Focusing on one task at a time is not only essential for productivity and time management.

But it also is an incredibly helpful way to help you work on your personal growth.

By being more intentional you need to be aware and detailed with your thoughts and that includes your tasks. And when you multitask you are flipping between tasks. Which means that you are not focusing and you are not being fully aware and intentional about your tasks!

Habit 10: Always make a daily to do list

I live by to do lists and find it so insanely helpful to write to do lists for each day, week, and month. This can be in your planner, on a notebook, or on a note on your phone. Regardless, this habit can help you be intentional about how you spend the time in your day.

I like to make sub to-do lists as well, like I will do a more vague to-do list for the whole day and then do a list for my work, a list for cleaning, a list for my site, etc.

If you want more details on how to write and really follow your daily to do lists then you need to go check out my detailed guide: How to Make an “Every Day Goals” List.

Habit 11: Regularly audit your social media following.

Social media can be a tool for learning but if you only follow toxic and negative people you won’t be learning anything you want to! I recommend once a month or once a quarter evaluating who you follow and support on social media.

Habit 12: Listen to more podcasts.

Podcasts are a wonderful tool for learning and growing as a person. So make it a habit to turn on podcasts more often than other forms of entertainment that don’t provide as much value to your life.

This is a tiny habit that can really help with your personal growth in the long run.

Habit 13: Choose and start doing 5 daily affirmations.

Positive daily affirmations are so helpful and wonderful for starting every day the right way.

Here are some of my favorite daily affirmations if you are new to doing them:

  • I am capable of anything I want to do.
  • I have learned the right skills to succeed.
  • My future is determined by only me.
  • I am worthy of love.
  • I find joy in daily occurrences.

Habit 14: Create a positive morning routine.

Take the time to create and start implementing the morning routine that will work the best for you.

Think about what you wish you were doing every morning. As well as what things you could do in the morning to improve yourself and grow.

I have my self improvement morning routine that you can get some inspiration from here.

Habit 15: Prioritize getting out of your comfort zone.

Getting out of your comfort zone means a lot more than just traveling to a new place (though travel is important, read about that below).

It means taking on new projects at work. You could start picking up a hobby you have always wanted to try. Or just trying new restaurants and coffee shops.

Making an effort to at least once a month but ideally once a week get out of your comfort zone can be life changing and is one of the most important steps for personal growth in your twenties.

If you want more inspiration and tips for this I have a video here all about getting out of your comfort zone.

Habit 16: Take time off social media each day

Logging off of social media has a lot of benefits. It helps you be in the moment and gives you an opportunity to be present with those around you. And present with your own thoughts!

And social media can be harmful to your mental peace if you are not being careful with who you follow and what media you are consuming. So to take control of your peace today try this idea of turning off your social media apps for a bit today.

Habit 17: Ask for help when needed and listen to guidance

Asking for help is vital to having self love in your life because you aren’t taking on things that you shouldn’t be the one doing.

If you are unwilling to ask your support system (both personal or work) for help when you have too much on your plate then yes you will be stressed out and will be lacking balance.

A lot of us don’t like to show when we are stressed but ultimately it is better for both you and those around you for you to ask for help before you completely burn out

Habit 18: Make time for your interests or passions

Self love isn’t just about self care and kind words– it is also about making time and prioritizing your interests or passions.

If all you do is work and family responsibilities then you don’t have a healthy outlet that brings you joy and stress-free time. And that doesn’t mean to ignore your work, school, kids, partner or anything like that. It just means that you need balance in your life and a healthy outlet so you can be your happiest and best self.

So start making your healthy outlets and hobbies more of a priority if you want to live a less stressful life.
