Summer time is one of the best opportunities you have each year to improve yourself! With so many of us having extra time without school in the summer or just having extra daylight during the summer months it can be the perfect time for improving yourself. Which is why I created this self improvement list that is perfect to complete over the summer. So keep reading for the 26 ways to improve yourself this summer!

26 Ways To Improve Yourself This Summer

How to start improving yourself over summer break:

1: Stop comparing yourself to others

Comparison can really destroy your motivation and mental wellness.

Learning to stop comparing yourself to others and focus on your own success and goals is one of the most important personal improvement tips I have! 

I recommend starting this with social media by reminding yourself that it isn’t a realistic look into others lives and that they have struggles too that you can’t see. Remember you don’t owe it to anyone to follow them!

2: Take a free online course 

I am a huge supporter of learning new things as an adult and taking free online courses is a great way to do that. Interested in astronomy? Photography? Digital marketing? There is free courses online for everything and anything!

So take your summer break to learn about something you are interested and passionate about.

3: Start getting more hydrated.

Increasing your water intake has so many health benefits. So on day 2 grab a water bottle with a tracker on it (here’s an affordable one) and start getting more water each day. Make sure to start bringing that water bottle with you everywhere to help you stay hydrated.

4: Create a morning routine that works for you

Morning routines are so helpful for bettering yourself and becoming the person you want to be! I have a lot of guides and articles about morning routines because they are so important. Here are a few of them:

5: Volunteer regularly to improve your life and the life of others

Volunteering is an absolute win.

You help out other and your community while also having personal growth. 

Find the right organization/place for you to volunteer that properly uses your knowledge, skills, and passions!

6: Try a new, fun type of exercise.

Next up is a very fun day- try a totally new exercise.

Take a crazy class, try barre workouts, go hiking! Anything new and exciting that could help motivate you to get more physical activity regularly.

7: Make a skincare routine that you love.

This is probably one you have heard a lot for ways to improve over the summer. And for a good reason! If you have the extra time to invest in your skin then take the opportunity.

Taking an hour or so to really read about what your skin type is and how you can take better care of your skin. And then start making an actual full skincare routine. Check out these new skincare items to find something you like.

8: Start learning a new language.

Expanding your knowledge is an amazing way to improve yourself and learning a new language is a prime example of this. 

There are so many awesome free YouTube videos and apps that can help you start to learn a new language for little to no cost.

9: Take the time to learn how to prioritize

If you have followed this site for a while you would know that I really highly value prioritizing.

Taking the time to learn how to prioritize your tasks and your days is one of the best things you can do to improve yourself this year. Take the time and read up on how to prioritize your days.

10: Learn to wake up earlier in the morning

Waking up earlier in the morning helps set you up for a better and more productive day. 

It’s amazing what a difference waking up earlier in the morning can have to improving your days. I have a guide on waking up early here!

11: Find healthy recipes that you love.

This is a step that can have a huge long term impact on your life. When you learn to cook healthy recipes that you truly love and want to eat it helps you eat healthier food consistently forever. 

I recommend starting a running list on this day of all the healthy recipes you know you like. Then when you try new recipes add them to that list! That way when you are making meal plans for a week you can pull from that list.

12:Create a vision board.

Vision boards are one of my favorite ways to improve your life! 

A vision board helps you really think about what you want your life to look like. Which is the first big step towards actually creating the life you want! 

So either make a physical vision board or a digital vision board on day 16. If you want some inspiration for your digital vision board check this tutorial out.

13: Start practicing daily gratitude!

This is one of the self improvement ideas is one I truly stand by and recommend to everyone.

Daily gratitude is one of the best things you can do for not only personal growth but also for your heart and soul!

I recommend doing a gratitude journal which only takes about 5 minutes a day. Incorporate it into your morning or evening routine and watch it start to help your heart.

14: Disconnect from your phone for an hour.

Getting off your phone is so important for keeping you in touch with those around you and being more present.

It also gives you an hour a day where you are focusing on yourself and not others!

15: Make a list of books you want to read this year.

Personal growth is a big part of improving your life. And one of the best ways to work on personal growth is reading! 

So take this day to make a list of books you want to read in the next year. I recommend focusing on personal growth, self development, and books about your passions/dreams.

16: Do a couple brain games every week to keep your mind sharp

One of the most fun ways to improve yourself is to start doing regular brain games. 

You can download so many free apps for this tip and doing these regular brain games will really help keep your brain sharp. My personal favorite is Sudoku!

17: Declutter your home/living space.

Living in a home with too much extra clutter can slow you down and stress you out. Which is why decluttering your home is on this self improvement ideas list.

18: Start a habit journal 

Starting a habit journal is a great way to start tracking your current habits and then forming new, positive habits. 

Tracking new habits is the best way to make them actually stick. And making new positive habits is one of the best self improvement ideas to truly better your life for the long term. This is one of the ways you can improve yourself this summer that will benefit you for years to come. Potentially your whole life.

19: Make your bed every day

This is an easy one but one that I really stand by! 

Making your bed every day sets your day up for organization and there is nothing better than going to bed after a long day to a clean, fresh, and made bed.

20: Start daily journaling.

On this day I recommend getting a journal if you don’t already have one and finding a list of daily journal prompts to start with.

21: Learn to clean as you go.

This is probably my most helpful cleaning tip!

And I have found that learning to clean better and more importantly, faster has been so life changing for me. Definitely something I recommend learning to do to improve your life too.

22: Refresh your resume.

When you find yourself in a situation where you are needing/wanting to search for a new job you will be thankful that you updated your resume over the summer. Or started one in general if you are in high school!

Having an updated resume is something that you will be thankful you have when you need it later.

23: Improve your body language.

Body language is one of the most important ways to communicate better which can have great benefits in your life. Do some research as an activity to discover how you can improve your body language.

This is one of the best ways you can improve your relationships. And is just generally a fantastic way to improve yourself this summer when you have some extra time.

24: Find a stress coping mechanism that works for you.

Everyone gets stressed out! But taking the time to find stress coping mechanisms that work for you is so essential for becoming the most amazing version of yourself.

25: Do a self confidence boosting challenge.

26: Make an ultimate goals list.

This list can be life changing. So I seriously recommend you start one this summer while you are doing these different ways to improve yourself this summer.

It’s pretty simple. Just grab a notebook and make a list of every goal you want to accomplish in life. Big goals, small goals, and everything in between!
