Gentle Ways To Feel Better About Yourself When It’s A Bad Day

How to start feeling better about yourself:

Idea 1: Make a list of your accomplishments.

Take 10 minutes and make a list of your accomplishments. And as you are writing the list think about your accomplishments, how much you deserved them, and how proud you are of yourself. Because you deserve to be proud of your accomplishments in life!

Idea 2: Make a vision board.

Vision boards are a great way to think about what you want to accomplish and what you can accomplish! because you are more than capable of making your dream life happen.

So take an afternoon and think about what you want your life to be like in the next few years for this activity.

Idea 3: Practice deep breathing.

Take a few minutes and work on deep breathing. This is a great way to calm your mind so you can focus on your thoughts and work on feeling better.

There are guided deep breathing on YouTube that you can try following!

Idea 4: Write 5 positive affirmations.

Positive affirmations are a great way to keep positivity and self love on your mind.

So take the time today to write down 5 positive affirmations in a journal or even on the notes app in your phone.

Idea 5: Journal about your day.

Reflecting on your days are a great way to stay in touch with your true thoughts and emotions which is an important part of loving yourself- to know what you are genuinely feeling.

Grab your favorite journal and start following a journal prompt list like this one!

Idea 6: Think about your self talk.

Evaluate how you are currently talking to yourself about yourself.

Are you speaking positively about yourself? If not then practice replacing each self talk thought with a positive thought. Positive self talk is a super important one of the ways to feel better about yourself!

Idea 7: Pick your most confident outfit and wear it today.

This is an idea where you can look through your closet and find your favorite outfit that you feel the most confident in.

Don’t let what others think about you stop you from rocking what you feel the most confident in!

Idea 8: Make a realistic daily goals list.

Think about goals that are helpful but realistic that you can do today.

So when you do complete them it can help you feel better about yourself.

Idea 9: Make a list of your 10 favorite traits.

This idea is so important for learning to really love yourself!

Taking a couple minutes to write down a list of your 10 favorite traits about yourself is an amazing way to get you into a self love mindset by thinking about the things you love the most about yourself.

Idea 10: Disconnect from your phone for an hour.

Let’s be honest – social media doesn’t help most of our mental wellness. And it can really hurt our self esteem and make us feel worse about ourselves.

So for this idea for picking yourself up spend an hour disconnected from your phone. Let yourself have some helpful time for living in the moment and being present with those around you and your own thoughts and emotions.

Idea 11: Get fresh air & natural light.

Fresh air and sun light are so helpful for brightening up a bummed out mood and feeling better.

Take a scroll in the park. Or just a quick lap around your neighborhood.

Even sitting out on your patio will assist with helping getting you the fresh air and natural light to help improve your mood.

Idea 12: Help someone else out.

Helping out others is a terrific way to spread the love and help put a smile on yours (and others) faces.

If you have the time and resources available to go formally volunteer than that is fantastic. If you find this to be a helpful way for you to feel better than you should consider signing up as a regular volunteer with an organization that you find truly brings you joy. It is an absolute win-win to help others and improve your mood.

If that level of formal volunteering isn’t an option then consider something as simple as asking an elderly neighbor if they need any help around their house/lawn. Or go to a local animal shelter and offer to spend some time loving and walking the dogs!

Idea 13: Do some simple self care.

Self care as basic as it sounds is one of the best ways to bring you happiness.

So take some time to pamper yourself a little bit.

Get your nails done, do a spa night, put on some comfy pj’s and watch your favorite movie. Anything that makes you happy. Do not worry about spending time on yourself because you deserve it.

Take at least an hour to take care of yourself.

Idea 14: Reflect on recent positives

Grab your favorite notebook and write down 5 positive things that have happened in the past month.

They can be major or more minor positive experience that has happened to you. Anything positive.

Taking this time to reflect on positives will remind you of positive aspects of your life and help pull your brain out of it’s rut. This is actually a great routine to do once a month or even once a week, especially if it brings you joy and helps improve your mood.

Idea 15: Create a happy space

Grab your favorite blanket and some relaxing candles or go into your bedroom and make the bed and clean up the area around you. Whatever you would consider a happy space.

Creating an environment that brings you joy will help boost your mood and help you feel better about yourself.

Idea 16: Write down your frustrations in life

And then let them go! Sometimes it is incredibly helpful for improving your mood to fully understand what pushed you into a bad mood to start with.

Grab a notebook and your favorite pen and start jotting down what you think might be holding you back from your mood improving. Once you really get it figured out what is hurting your mood it will give you a better idea of how to address them so that you can start really, truly improving your mood.
