The reasons you should try to have productive mornings (and stop hitting snooze!) :

  • Having a productive morning routine really sets the mood for the entire day. And so does just getting up and getting going right away in the morning.
  • Morning routines in general can help you be less stressed. You are able to get things done right away int he morning which means you have less things weighing over yourself all day.
  • It’s a great way to feel in control of your life. When you start each day doing things you want and need to get done you are making an effort at the start of each day to stay in control of your life.

Having a productive morning routine is a time in your day where you are already implementing positive habits so you are able to slowly add even more positive habits to it. As well as getting experience and practice so you can add more positive habits at different points during your days.

How To Stop Hitting The Snooze Button And Get Up Right Away!

Tips for getting up so you can have productive mornings:

Tip 1: Put your alarm clock across the room.

This first tip is probably the most common but it is also the most helpful.

The reality is, if you want to get up in the morning but you are struggling with hitting snooze too much then one of the best things you can do is just force yourself to get up in order to stop the alarm.

The key to making this tip helpful is to make sure and put the alarm clock far enough away that you have no choice but to get up to stop it but also not so far away that it is too quiet so you don’t feel overly inclined to stop it.

If you are worried about not having your phone nearby then try getting an actual alarm clock like this cool digital one.

Tip 2: Make your alarm sound super annoying.

If just putting your alarm across the room isn’t an option due to things like room size (especially dorm rooms!) then try making your alarm super annoying. Don’t do a light, nice tune. Try downloading an annoying voice yelling or even just a really loud buzzer noise.

This will force you to be more awake and alert right away and make you not want to hear it again so you don’t want to hit snooze.

Tip 3: Reward yourself while building the habit.

Hopefully you can practice getting up right away enough times that it becomes natural to you.

But while you are building the habit there is nothing wrong with rewarding yourself to help you build the habit.

Try getting your favorite coffee or a fun breakfast item that you can enjoy any day that you don’t hit snooze! Positive reinforcement can really help when building this habit.

Tip 4: Have a pump up morning playlist.

This is a fun tip but it is still just as helpful as the others!

Head over to your Spotify (or preferred music source) and make a playlist full of happy and upbeat music that you can start playing as soon as your alarm goes off. This will help to pump you up and put you in the right mood to get up and get going. Rather than hitting snooze!

Tip 5: Ease into it if you can’t cold turkey.

This tip is really helpful if you are struggling.

Never hitting snooze again is an intense goal and for a lot of us it really just isn’t realistic.

So instead of trying to quit cold turkey try counting how many times you normally hit snooze. And then every day for a week decrease it by one. Eventually you will get to the point of never hitting it but you eased yourself into it which is easier to do and honestly more sustainable in the long run.

Tip 6: Make your phone screensaver your reason.

Keeping inspiration visible is something I talk about a lot on here. And that is because it is so important!

And if you are struggling to stop hitting snooze then adding some inspiration could really help to motivate and encourage you to build these habits.

So either write a list of or make a moodboard of things that inspire you to get up and have a productive day. Include things like your dream life inspiration and anyone you want to create a better life for.

When you do this then when you look at your phone you see it and have the motivation to get up and not hit snooze.

Tip 7: Throw your pillow off the bed.

This is kind of a “last resort” tip but it can be so helpful!

If you are struggling to stop hitting snooze and the other ideas aren’t working then try making your bed uncomfortable. Throw your pillows and even blankets off the bed so that your bed isn’t comfortable and you don’t want to fall back asleep.

Tip 8: Try a wakeup light.

Wake up lights are a great option for helping you get up and moving in the morning. Especially during the times of the year that the sun isn’t rising when you are wanting to get up.

This is a great option because it also doubles as an alarm clock! It is also helpful for helping your body wake up by seeing and feeling the “sun light”.

Tip 9: Have a calm night time routine.

Ending your night before at a reasonable time, with some calming journaling or meditation, and lots of water to stay hydrated can help you sleep better at night. Which in turn can really make it easier to get up and start your day without snoozing.

So take some time and figure out what a calm night time routine looks like for you and start implementing it.
