12 Ways To Relax During The Holidays:
{ How to relax during the holidays and tips for managing holiday stress }
1: Get fresh air every morning.
Getting fresh air is so important for your mental and physical wellness.
So incorporating this into your mornings is a great way to stay relaxed and set your days up for happiness and success. Starting your day with some relaxing and refreshing fresh air can really help you keep the holiday stress and anxiety away.
This doesn’t mean if you live somewhere cold that you need to be outside for hours! If you have a dog taking them on a quick walk works great. Or if it’s too cold (or snowing) then open a window and sit by it while you drink your morning coffee.
2: Disconnect from your phone for one hour every day.
It is so important to stay present during the holidays so you can truly spend time with your family.
But it is also important because it will help you relax! Disconnecting from the stressed that come from your phone (like work and social media) is a fantastic way to stay in a less stressed mindset.
If you need tips for spending this hour off your phone then go check out my guide on this: How To Unplug From Your Phone Every Day.
3: Watch your favorite holiday movies.
This idea for relaxing during the holidays is definitely one of the most fun and festive ideas!
Spending an evening binge watching your favorite holiday movies is a great way to unwind and relax while staying in a joyful mood.
Note: I said YOUR favorite holiday movies. This is about keeping you relaxed so watch the movies you like not just your significant other or children’s favorite holiday movies. You can watch theirs another night!
4: Have a self care night.
Self care nights are always a great option for relaxing but during the holidays they are even more important.
It is so easy to get caught up in making sure your loved ones are all having a great holiday season that you forget to take care of yourself.
So take a few hours at night to take care of yourself and do your favorite self care items. If you are struggling to come up with your self care items check out this list: 10 Self Care Ideas.
5: Journal every night (or morning).
I talk a lot on here about the importance of consistent journaling and how it can help your mental wellness.
And the holidays are no exception to this! So when you are getting into your holiday time morning or night routine make an effort to incorporate journaling into your routines.
6: Bake your all time favorite holiday treat.
Baking is a great way to focus on something more positive and it keeps you busy enough that you can’t be stressing about holiday things.
This is one of my personal favorite ways to help with managing holiday stress- to ignore the holiday stress by baking!
Also, if you want to make this even more fun try making not just your favorite holiday treat but one that is totally out of your comfort zone!
7: Listen to an upbeat or calming holiday playlist.
Music is a great way to relax any time of the year.
So why not put a holiday twist on it and listen to either a really upbeat and happy holiday playlist or a calming one?
And don’t worry, you don’t have to make one. If you head over to Spotify there are thousands of holiday playlists and you can definitely find the one that is the best for you.
8: Light some candles and take a bubble bath.
This is a wonderful relaxation activity that can really help you unwind and destress during the holiday times.
And you can make it feel more festive by lighting holiday scented candles and using holiday bath bombs or bubble bath!
My current favorite holiday candle is: Sweet Water Decor Warm and Cozy.
And my current favorite holiday bath bomb: Oh Christmas Tree Bubble Bath Bomb by Two Sisters Spa.
9: Take time to volunteer in your community.
I fully believe that focusing your efforts on volunteer and better the lives of others is a great way to put your holiday stress into perspective. Which can really help with managing holiday stress.
How to relax during the holidays doesn’t just have to mean disconnecting from people, it can also mean connecting with people in a positive way!
10: Make a vision board for the next year.
Vision boards are a great way to envision your next year and get into a motivated and happier mood.
It can be very relaxing to think about the clean slate you have for this next year and working towards making it your best year yet. Also, if you aren’t big into crafting you can make your vision board digital this year!
11: Do yoga or meditation for 20 minutes a day.
This is a fantastic relaxation idea that you probably hear about a lot.
But if you haven’t started to incorporate your own yoga or mediation routines into your morning or night routines then this holiday season is the right time to start!
It is so good for your mental and physical to do either or both yoga and meditation and it one of the best ways to relax during the holidays.
12: Write a list of things you can control.
The final way to relax is my personal go to for relaxing when I feel stressed and like things are out of control.
Making a list of things that you can control can help remind you to let go of and stop worrying about the things that are out of your control.
