How To Do An End Of The Year Reset:
Get ready for the new year!
Let’s break this reset down into some key areas: home, personal development, finances, hobbies and health!
Home Reset:
1: Declutter Living Spaces-
Spend some time clearing out your home and workspace. A clutter-free environment reduces stress and boosts productivity. Tackle one area at a time!! There is no need to do it all in one go.
Not sure where to start with decluttering? That is totally understandable it is overwhelming af but I have a guide here that I believe is a super helpful list to start with- 50 Items To Declutter Right Now!
2: Deep cleaning- start your year with a fresh home
Deep cleaning might be something we dread but is there literally any better feeling than having a fully cleaned home?! Okay maybe there is a few better things but not many 😉
Not sure where to start? Head over here next: 30 Days of Deep Cleaning Your Home Challenge.
3: Make a weekly cleaning schedule- one that works for YOU
Yes deep cleaning is essential but when you are resetting your home and life it’s so important to also have a weekly cleaning plan. One that allows your home to never get to that state where you can’t imagine inviting people over last minute.
Again I have a guide with a freebie you can check out next (I promise this is a coincidence on these first 3 reset ideas)- My Helpful Home Weekly Cleaning Schedule- Printable!
4: Reset your pantry, fridge, and freezer inventory list
This list is so insanely helpful when you are at the store. No guessing what you already have at home or whether it is expired. Update this list regularly and make sure to bring it with you to the grocery store.
Hint: make this list on your phone so that it is always handy! And so you don’t forget it when grocery shopping.
Personal Development Reset:
1: Reflect and Evaluate-
Begin by taking stock of your current situation. Set aside some quiet time to reflect on what aspects of your life feel out of alignment or unsatisfactory. Consider your goals, values, and priorities, and assess where you may be falling short or feeling stuck. Journaling can be a helpful tool for gaining clarity and insight during this process.
2: Self improvement- Identify Areas for Improvement
Once you’ve reflected on your current situation you are heading into the new year in, it’s time to identify specific areas of your life that you’d like to change or improve.
This could include your physical health, mental well-being, relationships, career, finances, or personal development. Be honest with yourself about what changes would have the most significant impact on your overall happiness and fulfillment.
I have a full guide on self improvement activities here: 50 Helpful Self Improvement Ideas: Ideas For Improving Yourself!
3: Review and Celebrate Your Progress-
At the end of the weekend, take some time to review your progress and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Acknowledge the steps you’ve taken towards positive change and recognize the effort you’ve put in to reset your life. Use this momentum to carry you forward as you continue to pursue growth and transformation in the days and weeks ahead.
You have accomplished so much and I never want you to forget that my friends!!!
4: Reset your master to do list-
A master to do list can be so important for being more organized and productive.
This is just a list of everything you need to complete this year or in general so it can help you stay on track. It can see overwhelming at first but getting a look at all your tasks for the year is so important for having productive, efficient, and smooth flowing years.
Financial Reset:
1: Budget- Reset your budget
If you don’t already have a standard monthly or annual budget then take this opportunity to make one! It doesn’t have to be a big, daunting task. Simply make a 2 column list, one side with what your expected monthly incomes are and one side with expected monthly expenses.
Then as the month goes on try to keep the list as accurate as possible for what your making and what you are spending your money on.
Each month this will become easier and more accurate as you get a better picture of your spending. And as you become better at tracking you can start to improve the budget by going more into detail and limiting different areas of “leisure” spending to save money.
If this sounds difficult to do on your own then try getting a budget workbook to guide you!
2: Insurances- make sure it’s all up to date
Take the time to make sure that your health, car, home etc insurances are up to date and there is nothing further you need to enroll in. This is also a great time to shop around and make sure that you are getting the best possible plans for your budget!
Don’t forget life insurance either- I have a guide here on understanding it: Understanding Life Insurance As a Young Adult!
3: Organize Digital Files-
Sort through your computer and phone to delete old files and organize the ones you need. Keeping your digital space tidy is just as important as your physical one.
4: Review Subscriptions-
Take a hard look at your monthly subscriptions. Are you actually using all of them? Cancel anything you’re not getting value from.
You will probably be shook by how many subscriptions you are paying for that you aren’t using at all or not using enough to get your moneys worth.
5: Evaluate Investments-
If you’re investing, take a few minutes to review your portfolio. Make sure your investments are aligned with your goals and risk tolerance.
Hobbies Reset:
1: Set hobby goals-
This may seem silly but I have a HUGE advocate for spending some doing things for yourself. Spending time on things that bring you genuine joy and that you look forward to.
But without a plan and goals set it can slip your mind and all of a sudden it’s the end of next year and you spent less than 5 hours the whole year on your hobbies and interests.
2: Work on saying no to things you don’t love-
This is another reset idea that is so essential for making time for what you want to do but can be very difficult.
If you are saying yes to every social event that you are invited to even if you don’t really want to go you can quickly run out of time for what you actually want to do.
But saying no in a kind way can be difficult! So I have a whole post about this and tips for saying no here: Learn to Prioritize: Say No.
Health Reset:
1: Screen time- Make a plan to spend less time on your phone
This is so great for improving your mental wellness. Make a plan to disconnect from your phone daily. I have some tips for this that you can read here.
2: Set your annual health and fitness goals-
Inspire yourself to set some ambitious but realistic health and fitness goals for the year. I can’t tell you what those goals should be but I can tell you that thinking about how you want to feel at the end of the year is actually the place to start.
Then once you have that in mind work backwards from it and think about actionable steps you can take throughout the year then those are your realistic goals and actionable steps!!
