Daily Cleaning Habits To Help You Stay On Top Of Cleaning

Cleaning habits to help you keep a clean home:

Habit 1: Use the laundry basket clean up method.

This is one of my favorite cleaning tips in general! It helps with keeping your home clean and keeping things in the place they belong.

How does it work? It’s simple!

You grab an empty laundry basket and start in one room. Grab anything in that room that doesn’t belong in there and then go to the next room.

Any item already in the basket that belongs in that second room take out of your basket and put it into its place in that room. Then grab anything else in that room that doesn’t belong in there and toss it in the basket. And continue on until you have completed a full circle of all the rooms in your home.

When you do this every night there will be less things each time and it’ll start going quicker and quicker.

Habit 2: Wipe down all surfaces.

This is a simple habit that really makes a huge difference in keeping your home clean all the time. Staying on top of having clean surfaces (kitchen, dining rooms, bathrooms, etc.) helps the mess, dirt, and dust from building up. That way in the long run you actually will spend less time cleaning in the long run.

Whatever your preferred type cleaning tool for wiping down surfaces is you should keep that tool handy so that this habit isn’t overwhelming or difficult to start doing each day.

Habit 3: Learn to do background tasks.

Background tasks are things like the dishwasher running, the laundry running, a steamer going in the microwave to loosen the grime, etc. If you can time background tasks to happen while you are doing more active cleaning tasks you can really cut down on the amount of time you commit to cleaning during the day!

Remember this is all about being efficient. If something soaking for 10 minutes will mean it takes 1 minute to wipe down compared to 5 minutes to scrub then soak the item. Then you can do a different cleaning activity during those 10 minutes.

Habit 4: Stay on top of dishes throughout the day.

Staying on top of dirty dishes and not letting them really pile up is a great habit to get into if you want to keep your home clean.

Finished with a dish? Rinse it off and put it in the dishwasher right away! This hopefully will become second nature and a habit you don’t have to think about too much. But it can help dishes from becoming a difficult and overwhelming cleaning task.

Habit 5: Put laundry away right away

It is easy to push off putting away laundry for just an hour that turns into tomorrow that turns into 3 days later! So put it away as soon as the loads are done for the day.

Staying on top of laundry will also ensure you and your family will have the perfect clean clothes for each event and task they have coming up. No one needs to add that stress of not having their clean clothes ready!

Habit 6: Spray down the showers.

This is one that takes a bit to get used to. But if you hate cleaning down showers and bathtubs then getting a daily spray for them and spraying it each night quickly will make a big difference for keeping it clean and overall making your bathrooms feel cleaner.

This is also a good time to check out the rest of the bathroom and see if anything needs wiped down or if toilets really need a quick scrubbing.

Habit 7: Clean for a bit before going to bed

The final daily cleaning habit for keeping your home clean and organized is to always spend a little bit of time before you go to bed cleaning up your home.

This will help keep your house clean! Plus it feels great to wake up the next morning to a clean house. If you maintain a good cleanliness level at all times you rarely have to spend hours and hours cleaning.
