Fall is finally here! And it is the perfect season to add some seasonal spins to your daily routines. Or if you don’t currently have a night time routine it can be a great opportunity to build one that you can use as a base for the rest of the year with seasonal adjustments.
Anyway- today we are going to chat about my favorite autumn night time routine ideas that you should try out. Ideas that are inspired by the beautiful fall weather, colors, and vibes! Ideas that will get you into the autumn spirit and bring that warm and cozy vibes into your evenings.
We are also at the end going to talk about how you can actually stick to your routines. Having ideas of the routines that will help you create the days you are wanting to have is only a small part of the process. You need to actually implement changes and daily habits that will make the routines actually stick. Which may seem daunting but we will talk about how to make it realistic and totally feasible to have the fall night routine that you are wanting!

A Fall Night Routine You Need to Try!

Fall Night Routine Idea: wind down with a cozy beverage.
First things first- starting your evening routine with a cozy beverage is the perfect way to start winding down and calming down after the over stimulation that our world constantly has.
Of course, what this cozy beverage is depends on you! If you enjoy drinking warm tea then you are pretty much perfectly set for a cozy drink each night. Grab a tin of Carmel apple tea for the perfect drink in your pretty fall mug.
Hot chocolate is another great idea for a warm beverage that you know has no risk of caffeine that might keep you up at night!
If you are like me though and don’t enjoy warm beverage I recommend a chilly glass of apple cider or green apple sparking water is another favorite. No matter what- a tasty beverage inspired by the fall season is a dreamy start to your night time routine this autumn.
Fall Night Routine Idea: embrace the scents of autumn.
Fall has the best scents (but don’t tell spring I said that ๐ ) and your night time routine is the perfect opportunity to make sure you are appreciating some of those scents every night.
Here is my favorite ways to incorporate fall scents into your night routine:
- Shower / bath: Wrapping up your evening with a fall scented shower or bath is the perfect end.
- My favorite go to is the Philosophy cinnamon buns (linked here) it’s exactly how a fall shower should make you smell ๐
- Room scents:
- Candles- candles are the go to for so many but if (like me) you are anxious about open flames in your home then check out candle warmers! This is the most aesthetic one in my opinion.
- There are endless options for any type of autumn scents that you are looking for!
- Wax melts- I have loved wax melts as a safer alternative for ages. My favorite place to find new wax melts is Etsy because if there is a scent you are desiring chances are you can find it on Etsy!
- Room sprays- Another option is spraying an autumn room spray in the space you are spending the majority of your night routine in.
- Candles- candles are the go to for so many but if (like me) you are anxious about open flames in your home then check out candle warmers! This is the most aesthetic one in my opinion.
- Laundry: did you know you can get autumn scented laundry products so your bedding and clothes all smell like fall time? It’s so much fun- my favorite are these toasted vanilla laundry boosting scent beads!!
Fall Night Routine Idea: keep the screens away.
Screens keep our brains on alert when we are trying to calm them down and get our mind ready for a night of sleep.
They also keep up looped into the chaos of the world when most of us need a breather for it. I recommend at least an hour before bed turning off or putting away all screened devices. I know this is challenging at first but it will get easier and easier. And you will start to experience the benefits soon!
Fall Night Routine Idea: wear cozy pajamas.
Cozy pajamas or lounge wear sets the mood and the vibe perfectly for your autumn evenings.

Fall Night Routine Idea: choose a low-stimulation way to wind down.
As a mentioned before we live in a high stimulation world and while there is nothing you can do about that you can make it a priority to commit some time to calming down your mind in a low stimulation way.
A few ideas for this are:
- Reading a book (I don’t consider a kindle to be screen time btw but that’s your call of course).

- Playing games- sudoku, crosswords, whatever is good for your mind and helps you wind down.
- Stretching or yoga.
Fall Night Routine Idea: set the room right.
Setting the vibe is essential for having that fall evening you are dreaming of!
You can light a candle or warmer like we chatted about above, dim the lights (or just use a lamp instead of the big overhead light), put on a cozy playlist and begin your low simulation activity.
Fall Night Routine Idea: set your morning up better.
Okay, okay this isn’t necessarily all that fall focused but regardless of the time of the year adding steps into your night routine that set tomorrow up better are always a good idea.
You can-
- Prep your breakfast or lunch in advance.
- Pick out your outfit for tomorrow.
- Write your daily to do list for the next day.
And anything that is specific to your life and needs that will help you have better days tomorrow!
How to stick to your daily routines:
Tip 1: Use a habit tracker.ย
Habit trackers are something I swear for in so many different situations. And night routines are definitely one of them!ย
Grab an affordable habit tracker like this one and put it somewhere super visible.
Tracking your habits is not only a great way to see what habits are coming easily to you and which habits you are struggling with. It also helps you remember your routine and works as a small reminder every day of what your routines and habits should be.ย
Tip 2: Incorporate positive elements into your routine.
If your before bed routine is all โboringโ things that you are not looking forward to at all it will be way harder to stick to.ย
But if you have parts of your routine that you look forward to and are happy about doing then you are more likely to actually stick to it.ย
So when you are creating your night time routine make sure you add at minimum one part of it that you really enjoy and will make you excited to not only get to it but also to head to bed and it will give you an overall positive experience that you associate with your routine.
Tip 3: Try out habit stacking!
Habit stacking is the process of adding habits on top of each other.
Such as doing your skin care after brushing your teeth at night. When you stack habits on top of ones that you already do regularly you are going to have a better chance of making the new habits actually stick. And actually be come apart of the routine you are striving for.ย
So take note of habits you already do every night and then think about the habits you want to add to your night time routine. Figure out which new habits can be attached on top of habits that you already have. This is so helpful for actually sticking to and making your night routine.
Tip 4: Write down your night time plan.
This may seem obvious but it is something that is so often forgotten about.
Take the time to write down your ideal night routine (fall or not!). I recommend either writing it down and hanging it up somewhere visible in your bedroom or bathroom. Or making the plan on a note in your phone and pinning it so you can access it and see it regularly.
Remember that having a plan is an essential part of actually making things happen!
Tip 5: Donโt overcommit yourself.ย
When you are doing the tip above and write your night plan make sure you are pushing yourself but also being realistic.ย
So when you are making your plan be realistic with yourself about how long each thing on your before bed routine will take.ย
And of course you need to keep in mind how long you have until you need to start your actual day!
Tip 6: Celebrate your progress!
This final tip is one I recommend any time you are working on bettering yourself!
Take some time to celebrate your progress and the work that you have put into bettering your life and your routines.
