How To Start Fresh At the Start Of The Month

Tips for starting fresh every month:

Tip 1: Set one new goal

There is a lot of corny sayings out there (most of which are probably hanging on the walls of a dentist office) about goals being actionable steps to make dreams come true.

But the reason there is always so much inspiration surrounding that is because so many successful people have sworn by the power of goal setting. And, while, I don’t consider myself to be anywhere near ted-talk successful I have personally seen the power firsthand of focusing on your actionable goal steps in order to make your dream life a reality.

Back to the month fresh start now- picking a goal to really focus on that you didn’t include in your annual goals is the perfect way to make this month a totally new vibe. And that vibe can be determined by the goal.

Want to hanker down on fitness? Then set a monthly goal that’s ambitious like attending 20 pilates classes this month.

Whatever the monthly goal is, use it to inspire you to set a fresh tone for the month!

Tip 2: Do a digital declutter

Our lives are digital now. And as awesome, creative, and fun that can be it can also come with downsides. Digital clutter is one of those unwanted downsides!

So taking the time at the start of the month to freshen up your digital life can be so lightening and uplifting. Go through your camera roll and at least clear out the no longer relevant screenshots. Then do a social media audit quickly- if you see accounts that you are no longer vibing with give them an unfollow. That is great for resetting your months!

Another part of a digital declutter is of course your computer. Take a few minutes at the start of the month to clean up your files, desktop, and do any updates that you have been putting off.

Tip 3: Deep clean your space

What “your” space is will look different for everyone. And for many it will include more than one space!

Whether those spaces are your bedroom, your whole home, your apartment with roommates, your workspace, your car, etc. Think about the places in your life that you spend the most time.

Then make an effort at the start of each month to do a deep clean of those spaces. Remember, if you deep clean regularly you can stay on top of it enough that each time can be quick and painless!

Tip 4: Do an honest re-evaluation of the past month

The key word in this tip is HONEST.

Look at last month-

What did you accomplish? What about failed at? How was your mental health? Your relationships? School or work?

Think about those questions and your last month with an honest and open mind. Use that to learn from mistakes and lessons and grow off your existing accomplishments. But remember that this is a new month filled with new opportunities!

Tip 5: Schedule/plan anything weighing on you

In general I do recommend setting up and keeping up with a monthly calendar. Digital or paper works, whichever works better for you!

But specifically in order to really start your month fresh you need to get those things off of your shoulders that are weighing on you. Putting off going to the dentist? Make that appointment. Need to drop off donations? Schedule that as a date with your partner and get a treat after! Just schedule and make the plans in one sitting to help you start fresh and stop stressing about them.

Tip 6: Make fun plans asap!

Okay after you have scheduled and planned those things you are dreading this month you gotta make fun plans right after!

Plan some dates (here are some of my favorite actually fun ones) with your partner. Make plans with your friends. And try something new this month! Never been to a farmers market? Never played laser tag? Whatever it is add it to your calendar for a fun month that you will look forward to.

Tip 7: Try doing a brain dump

I swear by the power of brain dumps.

So if you are wanting to start fresh this month try out a brain dump!

Aย brain dumpย is exactly what it sounds like: taking everything swirling around in your head akta thoughts, ideas, to-dos, worries, reminders, random genius moments and โ€œdumpingโ€ them onto paper (or a laptop/phone). Think of it as decluttering your mind so you can stop feeling overwhelmed and start thinking clearly this month!

And don’t be concerned if the term seems daunting- brain dumps are super easy to do and are what you make them. There are no set rules and don’t let anyone tell you there is! But anyway, a brain dump is when you grab a blank piece of paper (or lined notebook which is my preference) or open a fresh google doc and title it brain dump. Then after that start writing down anything that comes to mind.

And if that is daunting (which it was to me the first time) some questions to ask to get your brain dump going:

  • Are there any decisions Iโ€™ve been putting off?
  • Is there anything Iโ€™m worried or stressed about right now?
  • What deadlines or tasks are coming up?
  • What meetings, emails, or follow-ups do I need to handle?
  • Are there household chores or maintenance tasks Iโ€™ve been avoiding?
  • How am I feeling physically and mentally?
  • What creative projects or hobbies have I been neglecting?
  • What habits or routines do I want to improve or implement this month?

And remember that a brain dump is super personal and there is no right or wrong way to do it. Just focus on whatever is making your brain feel lighter by writing it down and not having to remember it.

Now that we have chatted all about how to start fresh at the beginning of the month it’s time for you to go and put these tips into action! Best of luck my friends and I hope you find the ways that work best for your life to refresh every month.
