22 Habits To Easily Incorporate Into Your Morning Routine
Simple morning habits to add to your days:
1. Wake Up Early
- Extra Time: Give yourself a head start and avoid the rush by waking up a little earlier than usual. Those extra 5 or 10 minutes can really make a difference in how your morning routine feels and the mood that it sets for the entire day. Give it a try and set your alarm for 10 minutes earlier tomorrow.
2. Make Your Bed
- First Accomplishment: Start your day with a small win by making your bed as soon as you get up. It sets a tone for the day and of course has the awesome benefit of getting to crawl into a comfy and made bed when it’s time to sleep at the end of the day.
3. Hydrate
- Drink Water: Begin your day with a glass of water to rehydrate your body and jumpstart your metabolism. For me I have to have ice in my water so I fill a bottle 75% with water the night before and leave it in the fridge so I can easily throw some ice cubes in and start the morning with water. Ideally before having any caffeine but I won’t claim to be perfect at that one either.
4. Stretch or Exercise
- Get Moving: Incorporate some light stretching, yoga, or a quick workout to wake up your muscles and boost your energy. I found that an easily accessible yoga mat is really helpful for this- either in your room or in your living room that you go into naturally every day.
5. Practice Gratitude
- Gratitude Journal: Write down three things you’re grateful for to foster a positive mindset. I have a lot of helpful articles about this but my favorite is here: 51 Gratitude Journal Prompts For Practicing Daily Gratitude.
6. Mindfulness or Meditation
- Mental Clarity: Spend a few minutes in meditation or mindfulness to center yourself and reduce stress. This doesn’t have to be a large commitment don’t let it scare you! Taking 5 minutes while your morning cup of coffee is brewing to think about your day, life, gratitude, and your emotions instead of scrolling on your phone is all it takes.
7. Plan Your Day
- To-Do List: Write down your tasks and priorities for the day to stay organized and focused. I also talk a lot on here about the benefits of daily to do lists because I swear about them! Here is one article to read next if you are struggling to incorporate daily to do lists into your life: How To Get Your To Do List Done Quicker.
8. Eat a Healthy Breakfast
- Fuel Up: Enjoy a nutritious breakfast to provide your body with the energy it needs to start the day. I am a huge fan of overnight oats because you can easily prep a weeks worth at a time with different flavors so it doesn’t get boring!
9. Read or Listen to Something Inspirational
- Positive Input: Read a few pages of a book, listen to a podcast, or watch a motivational video. Something that inspires you and motivates you to better yourself and start your day in the right mindset..
10. Personal Hygiene
- Fresh Start: Take care of your personal hygiene with a refreshing shower, brushing your teeth, and all of your other personal hygiene needs.
11. Skincare Routine
- Glow Up: Pamper your skin with a simple skincare routine to feel fresh and look radiant. Starting your day with well cared for skin personally makes me feel like my life is together. Also, this is a great time to add a little SPF to your face to start the day. Because regardless of how much time you spend outside it’s always a good idea to put SPF on your face daily.
12. Get Some Sunlight
- Natural Light: Step outside or open your curtains to let natural light in and boost your mood. I am a huge fan of drinking my morning coffee while walking the dog outside in the morning. Multitasking isn’t my favorite thing (it can make you less productive) but when it comes to certain things like getting sunlight and movement can be habit stacked.
13. Affirmations
- Positive Self-Talk: Repeat positive affirmations to build confidence and a positive outlook. I have a ton of ideas for affirmations here: 62 Positive Affirmations For Self Confidence Improving And Growing!
14. Mindful Breathing
- Calm Start: Practice deep breathing exercises to calm your mind and increase focus. This is great to do right after caffeine to help you from getting jittery and anxious which caffeine consumed too quickly can absolutely do.
15. Declutter
- Tidy Up: Spend a few minutes decluttering your space to create a more organized and stress-free environment. This doesn’t mean actually donating or tossing things just spending a few minutes making your living space easier to navigate.
16. Music or Audiobook
- Mood Booster: Listen to your favorite music or an engaging audiobook to start your day on a positive note.
17. Set an Intention
- Purposeful Day: Set a clear intention or goal for the day to guide your actions and decisions. I love setting one major intention for the day- sometimes it’s personal, sometimes it’s career related, and often it’s just for surviving something happening that day!
18. Limit Screen Time
- Digital Detox: Avoid checking your phone or emails first thing in the morning to reduce stress and distractions. Immediate screen time is one of the biggest things I would recommend cutting out of your current morning routine.
19. Review Goals
- Stay Focused: Take a moment to review your short-term and long-term goals to stay motivated. Take a glance at your weekly, monthly and even annual goals.
20. Take a Moment of Silence
- Inner Peace: Spend a minute in silence to connect with your thoughts and feelings.
21. Prepare the Night Before
- Smooth Morning: Lay out your clothes and prepare your essentials the night before to save time. This is more apart of your night time routine but seriously removing any decisions from the morning is SO helpful.
22. Smile
- Positive Energy: Start your day with a smile, even if it’s just for yourself, to boost your mood and spread positivity.
