Making friends as an adult feels so weird. Like we all miss the days of being put into a classroom full of people our age and making buddies with the kid assigned to the seat next to us right?
Adulthood does have a lot more nuance of course and we want to find friends and build friendships with people that share at least some interests, passions and values with us.
But finding those people can be so hard!! But one of the best ways I have discovered is to join local clubs and groups related to your interests. However, a lot of towns and communities don’t have every single group already. Really outside of like NYC most places in America probably don’t.
That is where YOU come in! Start the club or group. Be the leader and start finding people that relate to you even if those groups don’t exist yet. Chances are there are a few people with similar interests in every community.
So below I round up 23 club ideas to help inspire you (and give some tips!) to start a club or group and get involved so you can start making friends in your adult life!
Let’s get into it-

23 Club Ideas To Start: Make Friends As An Adult!
Groups / clubs to start as an adult to make friends:
Idea 1: Book Club
A classic and for a great reason! Pick a new book each month and meet to discuss over coffee, wine, or themed snacks. This is one of the easiest clubs- and there are websites like BookClubs.com so you can organize your book club easily.
Idea 2: Craft Club
Start a craft club! I think the key to making this club attractive to others and fun is to allow the members to bring along any craft they want to do. But maybe also offer a craft? Whatever sounds the most fun to you!
Idea 3: Dinner party club
Rotate hosts and bring different homemade dishes for themed food nights.
Or host yourself if you love hosting (that’s me too!) and go all out with different themes. Heading to Pinterest right now for Inspo!
Idea 4: Running Club
Set running goals and motivate each other with group jogs or races.
I love when running groups also have a niche- like a dog focused group or slow runners or silent runners. So many ideas and you can create a run group that is fun and focused on what you like to do when running. Remember you are trying to find like minded people!
Idea 5: Recreational Sports Club
Whether it’s pickleball, tennis, or volleyball, casual sports are a great way to meet people.
Find a local place that has courts or the necessary space for the sport you are into and work with them to start a fun club for others that share your passion for the sport.
Idea 6: Travel Club
Organize weekend getaways, road trips, or outdoor excursions.
This is definitely the most challenging club to start but oh my gosh the potential for all the fun trips and events you could help plan is so exciting!
Idea 7: Board Game Club
Host game nights with classics like Catan, Scrabble, or have people bring their favorite games.
This is really fun to host at local breweries BTW!
Idea 8: Sustainability Club
Share tips on reducing waste, ethical shopping, and eco-friendly habits.
Plan local trail or park clean ups, host recycling or upcyling events etc. Find people who love the planet and want to protect it too!
Idea 9: Movie or TV Show Club
Pick a new movie or series each week to discuss, or host themed watch parties.
Idea 10: Trivia Club
I love a good trivia night so why not make it into a club?! Make a group that meets up once a week at a local bar or brewery that hosts trivia night and create an awesome powerhouse team!
Idea 11: Photography ClubÂ
Meet up for photo walks, exchange editing tips, and challenge each other with creative themes.
This could also be fun for anyone who creates content – maybe even focus it on content creation so the girls can help each other grab pictures/videos?!
Idea 12: Cooking Club
Try new recipes, experiment with different cuisines, or take on baking challenges! Maybe even create a fun series for your club members.
Idea 13: Biking Club
Explore scenic trails, city routes, or just cruise around with fellow cycling lovers. I am pushing my husband to make this club in our new city!
Idea 14: Do-gooders club
Love this club idea! Make a group for people who want to do good in your community and love to volunteer their time. Work with local charities to see where and how they need the most help and start making an awesome impact in your community while also meeting like minded people!
Idea 15: DIY & Upcycling Club
Transform old clothes, furniture, or thrift finds into something new and stylish.
This is high on my personal list of clubs I want to find in my new city or start if no one else has. You can even do clothing swaps where people bring clothes they no longer want and then anyone who wants to can upcycle from not only their own closet but from others.
Idea 16: Cocktail Club
For anyone who loves to create (or just drink!) fun new cocktails this is perfect. Host a weekly or monthly cocktail night- and make it fun with challenges. Like tell everyone to make a drink with a specific (and challenging!) ingredient.
Idea 17: Periodical Club
No need to commit to reading a full book- pick a long form article that your group can discuss. This is a great way to have meaningful and challenging conversations
Idea 18: Wine & Cheese Club
A fancy but fun way to taste different wines and pair them with delicious cheeses. Plus, who doesn’t love hanging out with people while sipping wine and snacking on cheese. Such a fun club that everyone will want to join!
Idea 19: Hiking Club
Hit the trails, explore nature, and maybe even plan an epic weekend hiking trip!
Idea 20: Handmade Swaps Club
Making crafts, canned goods, etc. for others is just so much more fun than for yourself.
So start a monthly club where people can come and swap their handmade goods with others who love and appreciate it!
Idea 21: Restaurant Club
Start a club for those in your town that also love to check out new restaurants! Plan weekly or monthly dinners at new restaurants (or new to you- you can have members suggest and vote on where to go next!).
Idea 22: Coffee Tasting Club
Explore different brews, visit local coffee shops, and learn about beans and brewing methods. Such a fun way to hang out, enjoy a cup of coffee and support local businesses!
Idea 23: Walking Group
There is a huge influx of groups like this and I love it!
Girls who walk is a group that has locations all over America but there is always room for new groups with different focuses. Like Moms who walk, wfh girlies who walk, etc!
