Ever feel like you’re just going through the motions each morning, stuck in a loop that feels more draining than energizing? Because same… which means that it’s time to shake things up and infuse your mornings with a burst of creativity!
Whether you’re a writer, a painter, an entrepreneur, or simply someone looking to incorporate a creative vibe into their days, I’ve got some helpful tips and a bunch of routine ideas below to help you craft a morning ritual that truly nurtures your inner creator. But let’s quickly discuss why you need a morning routine-
Why you need a morning routine:
- Sets the Tone for the Day: A morning routine establishes a positive tone for the day ahead. Starting your day with activities that bring you joy, such as exercise, meditation, or reading, can uplift your mood and mindset, setting the stage for creativity and success.
- Reduces Stress: Knowing what to expect in the morning can reduce feelings of stress and overwhelm. A consistent routine minimizes decision-making, allowing you to approach the day with greater clarity and focus, rather than feeling rushed or scattered.
- Enhances Mental Well-being: Engaging in activities like mindfulness meditation or journaling as part of your morning routine can promote mental well-being. These practices help reduce anxiety, increase self-awareness, and cultivate a positive mindset, laying the foundation for a fulfilling day.
- Promotes Healthy Habits: A morning routine provides an opportunity to prioritize healthy habits, such as mindful eating, hydration, and skincare. By incorporating these habits into your morning ritual, you lay the groundwork for a day filled with nourishment and self-care.

Morning routine Ideas for Encouraging Creativity:
1: Journal
Starting your day by allowing your brain to get warmed up and unlocking your current emotions is an ideal way to begin for creatives!
I released an article recently about creative journal prompts that you could check out for inspiration to get you started with morning journalling – Journal prompts for creativity: spark your imagination!
2: Don’t look at your phone for the first hour
Allowing ourselves to wake up, feel our thoughts and emotions, and begin our days is such a helpful and healthy path for creatives. When you go on your phone right away you are immediately starting your day bombarded by everything and everyone else in the world.
While it is a part of our reality, it doesn’t have to be part of it right away. Give your mind time to wake up and get inspired before you pull out your phone.
Creating before you begin consuming is to helpful to our souls and minds!
3: Write down 5 positive affirmations.
Ever since I started doing positive affirmations every day I started really feeling more optimistic about life. Which any creative person will tell you too- positivity and optimism are an essential thing to hold onto in a world that tends to rip them away!
An example of a few positive affirmations you could start saying or writing down are:
- I am proud of my success.
- I believe that I deserve everything amazing that happens to me.
- I’m confident in my ability to make good decisions.
- I am creating my dream life.
- I’m proud of what I will do today.
4: Incorporate Mindfulness—Even If It’s Brief
Mindfulness doesn’t have to be a 30-minute meditation session. For my fellow creatives, it’s all about finding small pockets of time to center yourself. This could be taking a few deep breaths, practicing gratitude, or setting an intention for the day. Even spending just 1-2 minutes focusing on your breathing can reduce stress and improve your mindset for the day ahead. If you enjoy journaling, jot down a few thoughts or affirmations that align with how you want your day to go.
5: Do a quick tidying/cleaning session.
Ugh you want me to clean? Yeah sorry guys but getting some cleaning and tidying out of the way right away in the morning allows you to be creatively fueled without as many life things weighing on you.
6: Leave Some Wiggle Room
A creative morning routine allows for flexibility!
Life happens, inspiration hits, and some mornings won’t go exactly as planned, and that’s okay. The key is not to be too rigid but rather build in a little buffer time so you’re not stressed if something takes longer than expected. Maybe you wake up a few minutes earlier than usual, or you simplify your routine when things get busy. The goal is progress, not perfection 🙂
Tips for sticking to a morning routine-
Tip 1: Be realistic with your alarm time
You are only hurting yourself when you suddenly try to wake up way earlier than usual. It isn’t realistic and isn’t an effective way to build habits or stick to your routines.
Tip 2: Use a habit tracker.
Habit trackers are something I swear for in so many different situations. And morning routines are definitely one of them!
Grab an affordable habit tracker like this one and put it somewhere super visible.
Tip 3: Incorporate positive elements into your routine.
If your morning routine is all “boring” things that you are not looking forward to at all it will be way harder to stick to. But if you have parts of your morning routine that you look forward to and are happy about doing then you are more likely to actually stick to it.
Tip 4: Try habit stacking.
Habit stacking is the process of adding habits on top of each other.
Such as doing your skin care after brushing your teeth in the morning. When you stack habits on top of ones that you already do regularly you are going to have a better chance of making the new habits actually stick. And actually be come apart of the morning routine you are striving for.
Tip 5: Don’t overcommit yourself.
When you are doing the tip above and write your morning plan make sure you are pushing yourself but also being realistic.
So when you are making your plan be realistic with yourself about how long each thing on your morning routine will take.
Tip 6: Learn your creative flow
When do you feel the most creative? The most energized?
What helps to bring out your creativity?
Think about these questions when determining your creative flow and ensure that your morning routine is helpful to it rather than fighting against your creative instincts!
Tip 7: Celebrate your progress!
This final tip is one I recommend any time you are working on bettering yourself!
Take some time to celebrate your progress and the work that you have put into bettering your life and your routines.
